The Noughties-obsessed style set have officially declared the death of the middle part. After a long stint as arguably the most popular style choice, the middle part is finally falling out of favour with the likes of Bella Hadid and Dua Lipa, who are leading the charge when it comes to reviving forgotten fashion and beauty trends from the 2000s.
Both stars have swapped their typical middle parts for sweeping side bangs, which were the look du jour during the Y2K era. Hadid debuted her new side fringe with a slick up-do for her birthday last month, only days after Lipa – who dates Hadid’s younger brother Anwar – was seen wearing her own hair in a side part with a high ponytail.
Ariana Grande has also been wearing her hair in a similar fashion, updating her signature 60s-esque high ponytail by sweeping the front section of her hair to one side and securing the ends behind one ear.
Beyoncé is the most recent star to endorse the trend, sharing her new hair look on Instagram – but the singer went one step beyond Lipa, Grande and Hadid by having a wispy side fringe chopped in to her hair, rather than just styling her locks in deep part on the side.
The Hold Up singer’s hairstylist Neal Farinah revealed that throwback looks of Beyoncé herself from 2003 provided all the inspiration he needed, captioning a snap of the star on Instagram with the caption, “THE WEDDING HAIR REFERENCE : ME, MYSELF AND I” – which refers to Beyoncé’s iconic blonde brow-skimming bangs in the music video for her hit single Me, Myself And I.
