Kate Middleton, the new Princess of Wales, attended the funeral service of Queen Elizabeth II today in Westminster Abbey, alongside other members of the royal family and 2,000 other guests from around the world, including 500 world leaders and other royals.

Middleton was accompanied by her two eldest children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, arriving with Camilla, the new Queen Consort. As is customary, the royal paid her respects to the late Queen by wearing an all-black mourning outfit. For the sombre occasion, Middleton lent on her favourite British designer, wearing an Alexander McQueen coat dress with a veiled black hat and matching heels.

Front and centre of her outfit, Middleton paid homage to Her Majesty by wearing a pearl necklace that used to belong to the Queen herself. The four-row Japanese pearl choker necklace, which features a curved diamond clasp, was first lent to the Princess of Wales by HRH in 2017. Notably, she had also previously loaned the choker to Diana, the former Princess of Wales, in 1982 for a state visit from Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands.

Middleton matched the meaningful piece to a pearl multi-strand bracelet and her drop pearl earrings, which were also part of the Queen’s jewellery collection. Middleton was seen wearing the same combination to the funeral of Prince Philip in April 2021, too.

Following the service at Westminster Abbey, the Queen’s coffin was placed back onto the state gun carriage to pass Buckingham Palace one last time on the way to Wellington Arch at Hyde Park. It then made the journey to her final resting place at Windsor Castle, alongside her husband, Prince Philip, where the royals will attend the private burial.
