Princess Charlotte Is Every Bit Her Mother’s Lookalike At The Queen’s State Funeral
The young royal wore a subtle tribute to her great-grandmother
Princess Charlotte joined her mother, the Princess of Wales Kate Middleton, and older brother, Prince George, to attend the funeral of her great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, at Westminster Abbey in London, joining 2,000 other attendees from around the world, including other royals and many world leaders.
For the occasion the seven-year-old looked every bit like her ever-composed mother, wearing an all-black ensemble made up of a black buttoned-up coat, a black wide-brimmed hat and black mary jane shoes with tights.
Following in her mother’s footsteps, the young royal used her jewellery to send a message, wearing a subtle tribute to her great-grandmother in the form of a small horseshoe pendant pinned to her black coat, which was gifted to her by HRH.
The Queen was, of course, a known lover of horses and racing and spent much of her time in the countryside with her animals. She was riding on the grounds of Windsor Castle well into her nineties. “I think this is her passion in life, and she loves it and you can tell how much she loves it,” Camilla, the Queen Consort, once told ITV.
Both the Princess of Wales and the Duchess of Sussex used their jewellery to send similar messages. Meghan Markle wore the pearl earrings the Queen gifted her in 2018 in honour of their first solo outing together and Kate Middleton wore a statement pearl necklace that also used to belong to the Queen, and which she notably once lent the former Princess of Wales, Princess Diana.
Not only did Princess Charlotte look the part, but at one point during the funeral she was seen giving her older brother, nine-year-old Prince George — now the second in line for the throne, a lesson in royal etiquette.
As the pair waited for Queen Elizabeth II’s coffin to go past them at Wellington Arch, Charlotte is seen in a short video telling her older brother, “You need to bow,” as he listens to her intently.
