Seeing doors open, figuratively and literally, during this moment in time is something to be celebrated. With so much shuttering, it’s wonderful to report when brands are flourishing. This week, Australian fashion export magnifique opened its third French boutique, this time in the cote d’azure’s luxury seaside escape, Cannes. Located on Rue des États-Unis the spectacular new store is in good company among high fashion and interior boutiques.

Zimmermann’s inherent wanderlust is the sartorial psyche in the South of France, its seaside whimsy, coastal luxury and romantic prints all fuelling a distinct character.

However, despite it’s French location and expat symbiosis, the store is cleverly linked to its Australian roots. Designed by Australian interior designer Don McQualter of Studio McQualter in Sydney, the space is a whitewashed, minimalist dreamscape featuring traditional French terrazzo tilting and handmade plaster mouldings. The rooms are focused on fresh, natural light – a nod to the label’s home. The team also chose wall decor that is both chic and cheek. Risqué nude works by Australian artists like Richard Larter sit alongside pieces by Naata Nungurrayi and Gaetano Pesce. The whole aesthetic is a kind of wishful pied-à-terre, a home away from home for the summertime resort queens.

Zimmermann’s burgeoning global domination is spectacular to watch. Seeing a label we’ve loved since its inception pop up in places like the Hamptons and St. Tropez has been a source of national fashion pride. Every season, sisters Nicky and Simone Zimmermann deliver collections that manage to both ignite the zeitgeist and tap the retail big-time, so it’s little wonder their bricks and mortar presence continues to expand.

As soon as we’re able, we’ll be bookmarking a stay at the Martinez, and a long walk down the Rue des États-Unis. Until then, dressing the part in from our own corner of the globe will have to suffice.

Should you be so lucky, the new store is now open. Details at
