Baby fever has flooded social media at the weekend for Mother’s Day. Among the many celebrity throwback posts one tribute that stood out in particular was from Ben Affleck. The actor took to Instagram to pay homage to his ex-wife, Jennifer Garner. The couple share three children; daughters Violet, 15, Seraphina, 12, and son Sam, 9.
“So happy to share these kids with you. Luckiest parents in the world. Thanks for all the good you do. Happy Mother’s Day. Love, their Dad,” Affleck published. The post was accompanied by a rolodex of photos including an image from a fresh-faced Garner following the birth of her first daughter as well as a Halloween family photo.
The couple married in 2005 and filed for divorce in 2015. Garner admitted the hardest part of splitting with Affleck wasn’t the publicity of the divorce, but having the children watch it unfold.
“Going through it in public is not what’s hard, going through it is what’s hard,” Garner told The Hollywood Reporter. “My children’s eyes are on me.”
“When they were smaller and there were things out there that were shocking, my request to them was always, ‘Let Dad and I talk you through whatever it is,’” she revealed. “I’d tell them, ‘If you see an image on the front of a magazine, I’ll look at it with you and we’ll process all the scary feelings that come up together.’”
Affleck garnered headlines last week after he was spotted spending time with ex-lover Jennifer Lopez. It was of particular interest as Lopez had just split from fiancé, Alex Rodriguez. Speaking on the speculated romance, Garner said that she just wants the best for Affleck.
“Jen isn’t bothered by Ben hanging out with J.Lo or anyone else. She wants what is best for Ben,” a source told Entertainment Tonight. “What matters most to her is Ben being a great dad. They’ve been in a good groove when it comes to co-parenting for a while and their kids’ happiness is Jen’s main priority.”
A source for E! News has shut down rumours however, stating the pair are “just friends”.
