Sweeping her legs from under her, a mythical tide rises. She’s beckoned to its pellucid heaven. Gracefully, she dips beneath the surface. Around her, her skirt dances a ballet of fervent relief, the silks from her shoulders float in a distant motion above. A flaring light spears through the water. Blinding, it splashes fragments of her delirium. She sees the past, the future. Broken metal, whirring blades, burnt lands, stopped time. She reaches out but they fade to nothing. She drifts up. Higher, higher until the thick waters disperse and she enters a cool, open sky. Lush leaves and rich floras appear. The light is low, crimson, distant. Her feet land softly on a light parchment. Water begins to rush around her ankles. It grows deeper. Gathering at her knees, her arms, her waist until she’s flooded by its quenching torrent. She sinks beneath the surface and thrashes her body against the wash. The sleeves of her blouse twist taut against her arms, strangling. Her bag swallows a reservoir and anchors towards the depths. She’s pulled down further and further. Suddenly, with a snap, she’s released. She ricochets, weightless to the surface, gasping for air. She settles to the top, floating. steady, silent. The water grows calm and dissipates. A familiar, arid air swarms her once again.
