They’ve been on-again and off-again. Current status, as we believe, is ON (if Zayn Malik’s latest Instagram – a photo of him picking a flower for Gigi Hadid in a field of purple flowers – is anything to go by). But Malik, 25, told GQ the most famous millennial couple is indeed more complicated than that.
“We’re adults. We don’t need to put a label on it, make it something for people’s expectations,” the singer said.
The pair were together for nearly two years and after a fascinating appearances at the Met Gala and loved up on each other’s Instagram, called time on the relationship in March this year. But, as some couples do, they were spotted kissing in the streets of New York City (they started the trend well before Hailey Baldwin and Justin Bieber). Hadid then posted a a picture of the pair cuddling to her Instagram story.
The question now, after two years of an exclusive relationship, can you go back to just being complicated and, well, label-less?
Malik didn’t go into further detail about Hadid but he did have beautiful things to say about her. He credits her with lifting him up after he admittedly had a “very negative outlook on things” following the release of his first solo album. He said the 23-year-old model “helped me to look at things from a positive angle.”
But he left the interview with a little hope for Zigi fans. While Malik noted Hadid was very organised and good with scheduling in dates for them to see one another she “doesn’t handle my finances yet”, he joked. “We’ll get to that eventually.
