What happens when you’re at the top of the influencer game and the high fashion house equivalent approaches you to collaborate? Fortunately (or perhaps unfortunately – we wish!), this is a question most of us mere mortals will never have the privilege to ponder.
In the case of Yan Yan Chan and Louis Vuitton however, the resultant photography series, which re-imagines the historic French atelier in beachside Sydney to celebrate the re-opening of Louis Vuitton in Westfield Bondi Junction, proves the brand will have no problem fitting right back into its newly decked out Eastern Suburbs home.
After all, there is no place too unfamiliar or foreign for the historic fashion house that is synonymous with the Art of Travel. This much is true of Chan too – her worldwide jaunts are well documented and there is yet to be a destination in which the jet-setter looks out of her element.
In fact, the pairing between the Sydney-based social media darling and the esteemed French high fashion house is more akin to peanut butter and jelly; vegemite and butter; or even chips and sauce—a digression that is clearly the product of the scintillating picnic vignette that punctuates the seaside-scapes that dominate the visual delights created by Chan.
Set against the inimitably Sydney rocky waves and the kind of Eastern suburbs light that is difficult to replicate—short of being in the locale—the collaborative works showcase the offerings that will soon be landing in the newly refurbished Louis Vuitton store in Bondi Junction, which features interior design highlighting the work of Australian designers and local elements, including a wooden surfboard and aerial photos of Bondi Beach. Good news for local LV fans: the store offers three new product lines: women’s shoes, gifting and perfume.
As for Chan’s artistic contribution to celebrating the beach suburb store’s opening, her photo series sees the brand’s signature monogrammed trunks sit on the seashore, while a fishing exercise reveals there really is something in the water: an immaculate LV purse which dances defiantly above the waves below.
