Christian Dior would surely be smiling. By Maria Grazia Chiuri’s hand, the latest iteration of the Dior Bobby sees a structured and feminine, half-mooned shaped bag plucked from her Fall 2020 collection and inspired by Monsieur Dior’s beloved dog of the same name. (Or series of dogs; when little Bobby passed away, the designer would replace him with an identical puppy, one to sit by his side while he sketched one of his vast skirts in his garden in France).
Similarly, and as the collections roll on, you would have noticed numerous haute couture looks also being lent the title “Bobby”. “Each collection contained a suit earmarked for success called ‘Bobby’,” the founding couturier wrote in his memoirs.
The timeless and elegant satchel came to fruition in Florence in Italy and is available in three sizes; small, medium and large. Three of the colour-ways – black, white and camel – are crafted from butter-like box calfskin and a fourth variation comes in the famous blue Dior Oblique canvas.
The Dior Bobby can be carried in the hand, worn on the shoulder, or cross-body thanks to its detachable shoulder straps. It celebrates both House codes with the CD monogram atop the buckle closure on the front and the brand’s Parisian headquarters address at 30 Montaigne on the back.
From sketch to reveal, watch the Savoir-Faire of the Dior Bobby below as it is cut, stitched, stamped, rolled, pressed and polished inside the Houses’ ateliers.
Yes, if the Dior Gem Bag is your go-to night time clutch, the Dior Bobby is for every other moment.
