After announcing a sequel to the most successful super hero film in years will happen, Warner Bros has now revealed exactly when we’ll get to see it.
In a statement on Wednesday, the film company confirmed Wonder Woman 2 will hit cinemas on December 13, 2019.
Two-and-a-half years feels really far away, but there’s still a lot of work to do for sequel – including getting director Patty Jenkins on board. While Jenkins has discussed her hopes for the sequel in interviews, her involvement hasn’t been publicly confirmed.
There is no doubt Warner Bros will be begging Jenkins to return for the second film after Wonder Woman’s runaway success. In the US alone it is the most commercially successful super hero movie in at least 15 years, grossing more than $389 million at the box office so far.
On its opening weekend it pulled in AUD $6.7 million at the Australian box office and $300 million worldwide.
Not much else is known at this early stage, except that Gal Gadot will reprise her role as the fearless Wonder Woman/Diana Prince. It’s also understood the next film will be set in the US.
“The story will take place in the U.S., which I think is right,” Jenkins told Entertainment Weekly. “She’s a Wonder Woman. She’s got to come to America.
“It’s time.”
There’s no doubt the US could use a hero right now.
