It was set to be the first Grammy Awards in two years that was not dampened by restrictions and masks and after a surprise location change, a star-studded lineup of guests arrived at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas for the annual music awards ceremony. Despite controversy which consistently surrounds the Recording Academy, the evening’s ceremony went off without a (Will Smith-esque) hitch.
The 2022 Grammys also promised history. Olivia Rodrigo could become just the third artist, after Christopher Cross and Billie Eilish, to win all of the “big four” categories at the Grammy Awards. This includes Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best New Artist. Taylor Swift could become the first artist to win Album of the Year four times. Similarly, if Billie Eilish and co-producing brother Finneas win Record of the Year for “No Time To Die” (which won them an Oscar last week), they’d become the first artist to win it three times in a row. BTS’ nomination in the category for Best Pop Duo or Group could see the first K-Pop group ever to win a Grammy.
