A new mental health campaign has been launched in the UK and it’s brought together Harry, Meghan, Kate and Wills, in spite of (or perhaps dispelling) rumours that the Cambridges and Sussexes have been feuding.
Launched by Britain’s National Health Service as part of its Every Mind Matters program, the public service announcement is voiced by the four royals while the footage features a diverse range of ordinary British folk, and also Gillian Anderson, Glenn Close and Great British Bake Off winner Nadiya Hussain.
The royals take it in turns speaking to first empathise that they understand the psychological pressures of daily life, and then to say that help is available, in this case in the form of a website that will provide you with a free online plan that will help users deal with stress, boost their mood, improve their sleep and feel more in control.
The royals are never actually pictured in the campaign; it’s implied that the British public, perhaps more used to hearing them speak, will recognise their voices. Wills, Kate and Harry speak in a posh private school register (guess it could be described as “royal”) and Meghan’s American accent sounds like it’s been softened since becoming a Duchess too. Then again, she is an actress.
The script for the clip was written by Richard Curtis, director of Four Weddings and a Funeral, and it premiered on British television on Monday evening.
“When they heard about it, all four of them were really keen to take part,” a royal source told People. “It is a really positive project, and all four of them have been involved and they hope it will have a huge impact.”
It’s not known when or where the royals’ voices were recorded; it’s possible it was done some time ago, and/or in separate locations.
Also on Monday, the Sussex Royals announced that they had updated their Instagram account.
“This month, in celebrating “community”, we asked you to share your favourite organisation from your neighbourhood or around the world. We want to thank everyone who made a suggestion or kindly shared a positive story! We have now updated the accounts we follow for this month to reflect many of your suggestions! Thank you!” the post read, alongside a photo collage of some of the organisations.
Among their newly followed accounts are a couple of Australian organisations — Rize Up Australia, helping families who have been affected by domestic violence, and St Kilda Mums, who re-home donated nursery equipment and clothing to babies and children across Victoria.
No doubt these causes will get a huge boost following the royal endorsement.
