This Sunday, the 4thof August, is Meghan Markle’s birthday. Happy B’day Duchess!

Given Meghan and Harry’s epic royal wedding and the Duchess’ next-level glamorous New York City baby shower, you might expect there to be a huge celebration happening to mark Meghan’s 38th trip around the sun. Alas, there is not.

Why, you ask? According to The Sun, Meghan was advised to have only a very low-key birthday celebration this year following public backlash to her lavish lifestyle.

You see, the British royal family is in part funded by British taxpayers, which means there tends to be a public uproar when the they splash out on unnecessary costs.

Many in the UK have been grumbling about the 2.4 million pound renovation of Meghan and Harry’s new home, Frogmore Cottage.

There’s also been a general sentiment among many Brits that Meghan is too Hollywood, after her lavish baby shower and arguably excessive security detail at Wimbledon.

Which is why Meghan was advised not to throw a big party for her 38thbirthday – and to turn down an invitation to hang with the Clooneys at their Lake Como home.

“Frogmore Cottage will host a celebration for Meghan’s birthday,” an insider said.

“The Clooney clan will be in Villa Oleandra on Lake Como and the Sussexes will not want to be seen enjoying more of their lavish hospitality after the PR disaster backlash post the US baby shower.”

So what will she do? More than likely, Meghan, Harry and Archie will head to Queen Elizabeth’s mansion at Balmoral to have tea. That low-key enough for you, Brits?

“It is testament to Meghan that she has been given this invite,” the source said.

”It’s a huge honour. They will celebrate Meghan’s birthday, and the catering team will bake a cake to mark the occasion. Meghan may be a Duchess who can have anything she wants but the Queen is giving her a thoughtful present. It’s no secret Balmoral is Her Majesty’s favourite home and that’s why this invite is so special and heartfelt.”

Honestly, tea with the Queen herself is no small thing. Happy birthday, Meghan – the Clooneys summer home on Lake Como will be there next year.
