Scott Disick and Kourtney Kardashian’s relationship has long been the subject of confusion for those who manage to Keep Up with the Kardashians.
The pair have a decade-long on-again, off-again relationship, and for a while, it appeared no one would get in between them for long. So when Disick met and started dating then-19-year-old Sofia Richie, fans—and even Richie’s own father, singer Lionel Richie—wrote the relationship off as a fling.
But three years later, the duo were still going strong, living together and partaking in group holidays with Kardashian, her family, and Disick’s three children whom he shares with his ex.
However, when Richie and Disick eventually called it quits in mid-2020, things turned sour. The pair quickly unfollowed each other on social media and Disick shacked up with another 19-year-old, Amelia Hamlin.
So what went down?
During Thursday’s season premiere of Keeping Up with the Kardashians—the show’s final season— Disick discussed his split from Richie, telling Kim and Khloé Kardashian that Richie gave him an “ultimatum” at the end of their relationship, asking him to choose between her and Kardashian.
“I thought I would give it a try and make her more of a priority,” he said. “But then even when doing that, I feel like she just started wanting to push Kourtney out.”
He continued, “And I said like, that’s the most important thing to me is my kids and that’s my family, and the only family I have, including you guys along with it.”
But Richie had had enough. “She was like, ‘I don’t want to share you as a boyfriend with Kourtney,'” he continued. “And then she literally said with an ultimatum: ‘You have to choose me or Kourtney.'”
Disick went on to say he would never cut ties with Kardashian. “Kourtney is Kourtney and my kids — it’s a unit,'” he said. “I was like, ‘How could you even want that for me?’ It just became like, an impossible relationship to keep carrying on with, right?”
Later Disick spoke directly to camera, saying, “I’m never going to give up my relationship with Kourtney and the co-parenting we have, nothing in a million years, will be worth what we have. And I truthfully believe if the right person were to even come along into Kourtney’s life, or my life, us having children and having this amazing relationship would only be a plus to the outsider.”
Speaking earlier with her mum, Kim Kardashian said she understands Richie’s stance. “If I was in Sofia’s shoes, I would be like, this is absolutely not normal,” she said. “I wouldn’t want to be with someone that was like, vacationing with their ex.”
For her part, Kardashian is now dating Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker, while Disick has been dating Hamlin for around three months.
