That dreary La Niña weather promised an ongoing deluge of rain across Afterpay Australian Fashion Week in Sydney this week. But in a case of fortune favouring the bold – or perhaps a perfectly hatched PR plan – Tuesday’s We Are Kindred annual garden party went ahead with a surprising bout of sunny skies. Indeed, only the resort wear label founded by sisters Lizzie and Georgie Renkert could will away the rain for a picturesque presentation.

The stunning Sydney harbour formed the backdrop to We Are Kindred Resort 2023 – now in its sixth year of presenting – with 15 models posing at a private residence in Mosman. Titled “Eryldene”, the forthcoming collection draws direct inspiration from a garden of the same name in the city’s northern suburbs, of which the design duo’s grandmother was a lifetime member.

“Eryldene holds a special place in our hearts, reminding us of summers in our youth spent growing up around beautiful gardens filled with flowers, and later in our lives, of the incredible gardens from around the world we have been so lucky to visit on our travels,” says We Are Kindred Co-Founder & Director, Lizzie Renkert.

Characterised by a pared-back colour palette (read: pinks, blues and white), the collection is also a nod to a longing of international travel with references to the designer’s favourite destinations; the pastel colours of the Amalfi Coast and the French Riviera to the sun-washed whites of Santorini. Alongside the brand’s signature ethereal dresses, this season saw a focus on separates, which can be mixed and matched with staples already found in our wardrobes.

“For this Resort collection, we wished to capture this notion of wanderlust and longing for international travel through the collection, and to imagine what we envisage to be elegant garden party attire for the modern globetrotter – a wardrobe of effortless separates, light and breathable fabrics and statement prints,” adds We Are Kindred Co-Founder & Designer, Georgie Renkert.

Now, just to will our way to the Amalfi to wear these pieces.
