Rami Malek knows too well the pressure of embodying an iconic, electrifying rockstar. The Bohemian Rhapsody actor and Oscar nominee who immortalised Freddie Mercury sat with his girlfriend and co-star Lucy Boynton and cheered on Queen band members Brian May and Roger Taylor and their stand-in frontman Adam Lambert as the band opened the Oscars.

Performing classics We Will Rock You and We Are The Champions, the trio were incredible and had everybody standing and applauding mere seconds in. Jennifer Lopez, Allison Janney, Lady Gaga, Christian Bale and Bradley Cooper were notable fans, but no more than Javier Bardem who actually lost it watching the performance.

Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody is nominated for for five Academy Awards tonight including Best Picture and Best Actor (Malek).

If you’re in Australia, the ceremony will begin at 12 noon (AEST) today on Monday February 25. Channel Nine have again secured the rights to the show. If you’re at work or in transit, you can stream the ceremony live online at 9Now. Click here.
