Fashion’s current more-is-more philosophy is steadily being translated to hair trends too, with hair accessories coming down the catwalk and lighting up Instagram in droves. With clips, barrettes and headbands making the swift transition from twee to chic, there’s never been a better time to inject some hair jewelry into your mane efforts. The multi-banded low ponytail at Valentino Haute Couture AW16 made the point that hair accessories can be sleek and tough, plus it’s surpisingly easy to emulate yourself. Natalie-Anne from SCHWARZKOPF shows how.

Step One With this look the straighter the better, so defend you hair against the tools with a heat protectant such as SCHWARZKOPF Extra Care Heidi’s Heat Styles Protection Spray
Step Two Straighten all of your hair with a flat iron, using a comb for more control and a smoother finish
Natalie-Anne’s pro TIP For an added hit of sine, apply some gloss serum before straightening, like SCHWARZKOPF Extra Care Moisture Gloss Crystal Oil
Step Three Using a tail comb for extra precision, section out a halo of hair, from 2cm back from your hairline, all the way around to the back
Step Four Create a low ponytail out of the halo of hair at the nape of your neck and secure with a band
STEP FIVE Starting from the frint hairline create a small ponytail, about 1cm wide
and band off
Step Six Cover the elastic with ribbon or wire

Step Seven Working towards the ear, add a small section of hair to the ponytail and band off
Step Eight Cover with wire again
Step Nine Continue working your way around the hairline making small ponytails and banding off
Step Ten repeat steps 5-9 on the other side

Step Eleven Now you should have three clean ponytails at the nape of your neck
Step twelve Combine the three ponytails to create one ponytail
Step thirteen Band off and cover with wire
Step fourteen Add another band further down the ponytail. Band off and cover with wire
Step fifteen Finish with shine spray for a high fashion, glossy finish, such as SCHWARZKOPF Dry Oil Mist Smooth & Shine
