It’s rare for anything to steal the attention away from the long limbs and lingerie at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, but there was one common occurrence stealing this Beauty Editor’s eye – the lack of balayage. Many of the dark-haired Angels had traded out their lighter brown or ombré locks for solid brown shades. From Taylor Hill and Kendall Jenner to Sara Sampaio and Adriana Lima, root-to-tip rich brown tones ruled the runway. Even first-time walker Bella Hadid shifted further away from her blonde sister, Gigi via a fresh, almost-black hair hue.

“I’m predicting that this new Victoria’s Secret brunette brigade will prompt a monster shift in colour placement in 2017, less ombré and more glossy, rich brunettes,” says hairstylist and colour expert, Natalie-Anne, who shares her sure-fire tips for anyone wanting to take the dark hair plunge. “I always explain to my clients that gloss or semi-permanents are like sheer stockings, adding way more dimension shine and tone,” she explains.

Once you’ve decided on the treatment, Natalie-Anne suggests using your eye colour as a guide for finding the right brown tone. “As you can see with Adriana and Bella’s eyes are lighter green and blue, therefore a cool, dark or black are sexier,” she explains. “Whereas Kendall has sultry brown eyes, which tends to work better with a slightly warmer, natural brown, not as dark but just as rich.” Her final tip? Be 100% sure before you dive into the dark end. “This is a huge colour commitment ladies, once you go dark it is harder to change, so be sure it’s what you want.”
