Victoria then leans in to hug David as an off-camera interviewer asks him what made him fall in love with her. “I couldn’t put my finger on one thing,” he says in response. “It was everything, the whole package. I just fell in love with it.”

David then tries to wrap up the conversation to which Victoria replies, “Am I boring?”

“No darling, you’re brilliant,” he says. “But I’m tired.” The two then hug again and Victoria says, “He’s very sexy isn’t he?”

“She came to watch me in a game in London with her manager at the time and one of the other Spice Girls, Sporty Spice,” he said.

Victoria travelled to Manchester the following week, where David asked for her number, which she gave him on a train ticket that he still has to this day. “She’d had a couple of drinks so I decided why not, I’ll try and get her number,” he said.

“We talked for about an hour in the players’ lounge. She actually got the train up that day so she wrote her number down on her train ticket, which I still have.”
