On the same day that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge revealed their very stylised and very professional annual Christmas card, showing Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis smiling perfectly at the camera beside their parents while sitting on a hay bale – relatable! Down to earth! Country!, it screams – the Beckham family revealed what really goes on behind the scenes of a family portrait.

In a video uploaded to Instagram, Victoria Beckham showcased the lead-up to the family’s Christmas photo. As her children, Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz and Harper stand – and sit – by the family’s huge 20ft Christmas tree, the designer tries to round them up, asking her eldest, Brooklyn, whether he’s sure he wants to wear shorts and a beanie – “Are you sure you don’t want to put trousers on?” she says, which the 21-year-old naturally completely ignores.

Cruz then shows off what he’s opted for aesthetically: a Borat Christmas jumper, which Beckham notes perfectly encompasses the teen’s personality. Meanwhile, Romeo, standing by his younger sister, opts for a chic Gucci shirt, while Harper wears a cute festive green dress.

The youngest of the family seems to share her mum’s annoyance by the boy’s behaviour, saying at one point, “It looks like a very sad Christmas.” Beckham then tries to get her children to round up the playful dogs and get everyone to stand facing the camera – and smiling – for a photo.

“It’s a Christmas card guys, this is meant to be a nice thing to do,” she says, before instructing the boys to “pick up a dog!”

Though she hasn’t shared the professional shot – or if they ever even managed to get one, Beckham did share a cute photo of her kids from the same day with festive emojis scattered over the top of them.

Sorry, Cambridges with your castles, but we know whose house we’d rather be at this Christmas.
