Whether we are escaping the mundanity of our restricted lives or the messiness of our social media feeds, a woman’s night time routine has become a much-needed tool to disconnect and relax. In a new series “How I Wind Down…”, we speak to lot of different women about how they prepare for a restful evening.

Vera Blue, or Celia Pavey as she goes by off stage, first made a name for herself in the second season of The Voice. With her angelic voice, ethereal beauty and grounded demeanour, the singer, songwriter and musician quickly rose to fame (despite only placing third) and has been one of Australia’s proudest music exports ever since.

It’s also no surprise Pavey has just been tapped as the local face of Wella – a contemporary take on the iconic Wella Woman. With her incredible auburn hair, Pavey is not only the ultimate physical embodiment of the Wella brand but a creative one as well .Charming, talented and dynamic, Pavey’s relationship with her hair is an important one, especially in the context of her career as a performer: “My hair has been an instrumental element in my persona as Vera Blue, so I am extremely protective of it, but also enjoy experimenting with it as a part of my image.”

To celebrate the partnership, GRAZIA had the opportunity to sit down with Pavey and chat through her approach to beauty, rest, the evening rituals that keep gher grounded, and a few time-saving hair styling tricks for good measure.

GRAZIA: Can you describe your night time beauty routine?

VERA: My night time beauty routine is my favourite because it’s like a form of self-care. It changes a little depending on what night it is and what my skin needs. I love to take a bath with a couple drops of lavender oil. I’ll then wash my face with Societe Pure Every Day Cleanser, followed by Aspect Ultra Light Hydration Moisturiser and finish with Cosmedix Opti Crystal Liquid Eye Serum. Every other night after I cleanse I use PCA Skin Retinol Treatment for sensitive skin as well. Before heading to bed I moisturise my body with Glasshouse Fragrances Midnight in Milan Lotion – it’s beautiful.

GRAZIA: How do you wind down after a busy day?

VERA: After a big day, a bath with lavender oil is my favourite way to wind down… maybe even a glass of shiraz. I’m big on getting into bed early, but love to watch a movie or a tv show to take my mind away from work. If I want to indulge myself a little more with skincare, I’ll apply my Bopo Women Hormone Hero Face Oil and massage it in with my Lonvitalite face roller. Bliss!

GRAZIA: How do you decorate your space so that it feels like a sanctuary?

VERA: Flowers and fairy lights! Warm mood lighting and florals always make me feel right at home. A sweet smelling candle is also a nice touch – Lumira Balinese Ylang Ylang is my favourite.

GRAZIA: What time do you go to sleep?

VERA: It depends what is happening and if I’m touring or in the studio. On an ideal day, I’d go to bed around 10:30 p.m. and wake up around 7 a.m. When touring it’s all kinds of ridiculous hours so it is hard to get a solid nights sleep… but you get used to it.

GRAZIA: What about those nights’ where you’ve had a bad sleep (like on tour). Any makeup products you’ll reach for?

VERA: I think drinking loads of water is a priority if I’m sleep deprived but in terms of beauty, I will do a Cosmedix Glow Bamboo Brightening Mask followed by YSL Pure Shots Hydra Bounce Lotion and YSL Pure Shots Perfect Plumper Lotion. It’s all about hydration for me when I’m feeling exhausted or tired! The skin really does tell you what it needs.

GRAZIA: What’s your go-to morning outfit when you’re in a rush?

VERA: Good question! It depends on what I’m doing and what the temperature is. In the summer, I’ll always reach for a cute little summer dress and some comfy but stylish slides. In the winter it’s a pair of coloured, high-waisted jeans (always from the op shop), a turtle neck, fur jacket with whatever pair of Doc Martins I’m drawn to. If I’m heading out to get groceries or running errands I’ll just throw on my fave Lululemon gear – comfy and practical.

GRAZIA: You have incredible hair! Any before bed treatments or styling hacks you can share that help you get out the door in the morning?

VERA: I usually wash my hair in the morning, but on nights before a shoot or early event, I wash use WELLA Professionals Colour Motion Shampoo and WELLA Professionals Colour Motion Structure Mask. I let that sit for a while and then rinse. I prefer to let my hair air dry, but if I have to go to bed early I’ll use a blow dryer.

GRAZIA: And what about quick morning styling tips?

VERA: The WELLA EIMI Dry Shampoo is the best! I’ll pair this with the Wella System Professional Instant Energy Dry Conditioner on the ends. It makes the hair look fresh and healthy between washing and styling. I also love to use the System Professional Hydrate Quenching Mist! All of these tricks I’ve learnt from my hair guru and stylist Richi Grisillo. My beauty routine has evolved over time and I’m so thankful for the people I’ve met (like Richi) who have taught me how to look after my skin and hair.
