Actress Uma Thurman has implied she too was one of Harvey Weinstein’s victims. In a revealing Instagram post today – the Thanksgiving holiday in America – 47-year-old Thurman commended the women brave enough to speak up and stand up to the film mogul.
“Happy Thanksgiving,” she began. “I am grateful today, to be alive, for all those I love, and for all those who have the courage to stand up for others. I said I was angry recently, and I have a few reasons, #metoo, in case you couldn’t tell by the look on my face. I feel it’s important to take your time, be fair, be exact so… Happy Thanksgiving everyone! (except you Harvey, and all your wicked conspirators – I’m glad it’s going slowly – you don’t deserve a bullet) – stay tuned. Uma Thurman.”
The #MeToo movement is of course the viral campaign used to denounce sexual assault and harassment by way of an online hashtag. While it can be used to share and group stories from any part of the world, Thurman calls out Weinstein specifically and with a “stay tuned” suggests her tale is coming. Thurman worked on a number of Miramax films (of whom Weinstein was CEO) including Kill Bill and Pulp Fiction. If reported, Thurman will join over 100 women who have spoken out against the producer.
Thurman did suggest there was more to her story when interviewed by Access Hollywood recently. When asked her opinion on the Weinstein scandal, Thurman found it visibly difficult to respond. “I don’t have a tidy sound bite for you,” she said. “Because, I have learned I am not a child, and I have learned that when I’ve spoken in anger I usually regret the way I express myself. So I’ve been waiting to feel less angry and when I am ready, I will say what I have to say.”
It appears that time is now. Or at least soon.
