Timothée Chalamet was all anyone could talk about in 2019. I mean, the actor almost singlehandedly kicked off the rise of the ‘Softboy’ trend – defined online as being a “less masculine boy who is described as “cute” based on their soft or gentle characteristics,” or, my personal favourite: similar to a fuckboy but “without the cocky attitude.”

So when Chalamet was spotted passionately making out with his The King co-star and girlfriend of a year, Lily-Rose Depp, on a superyacht off the coast of Italy, we literally lapped it up.

The images, which showed Chalamet sitting at the end of the boat with his arms holding the side and Depp in between his legs, their lips locked in a very intense makeout session, naturally quickly became a viral meme.

Now, one year on, Chalamet has spoken about the incident, revealing that yes, of course, he saw the images and yes, of course, he was embarrassed as hell.

“I went to bed that night thinking that was one of the best days of my life,” he said in his recent cover interview for GQ. “I was on this boat all day with someone I really loved, and closing my eyes, I was like, indisputably, ‘That was great.’ And then waking up to all these pictures, and feeling embarrassed, and looking like a real nob? All pale?”

He continued, “And then people are like: This is a P.R. stunt. A P.R. stunt?! Do you think I’d want to look like that in front of all of you?!

Chalamet and Depp have since ended their relationship, but Chalamet’s paparazzi moments, unfortunately for him, haven’t. Recently he was photographed having a steamy time in the hot tub with actress Eiza González in Mexico.
