I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but we’ve all been doing our makeup wrong. TikTok, our digital purveyor of modern day makeup and skincare hacks, has been revolutionising the way we use cosmetics in recent years. Now the biggest corrective trend to take over the platform is a new method of concealer application that puts our old method to shame.

The old way of doing things – which has been largely pervaded by the Kardashians and their glam squad – involves applying a significant amount of concealer under the eyes, a swipe of concealer down the nose and fanning out from between the brows and up across the forehead. If you’re going all the way, you might also conceal around your lip line and beneath the contour of your cheeks for extra emphasis, as demonstrated by Kim Kardashian below.

But astute TikTokers, namely user Megha Singh, have presented a counter argument. Singh argues that a less-is-more approach to concealer is more effective for creating lift in the face. Instead of going in heavy-handed, she dabs a touch of concealer at the outermost corner of her eye, a tiny bit at the inner corner and a touch at the side of her nose.

She then adds a swipe beneath the corner of her lower lip and a little streak beneath her cheek, before blending it all in. Singh then demonstrates the lifting effect this had on one side of her face, with the other side following traditional concealer techniques. And as evidenced below, the results are quite convincing.
