There may not have been a host at the 71st Emmy Awards last night, but there were plenty of winners, especially on the purple carpet.
Here are ten of our favourite show-stopping looks.
- Mandy Moore.
Nominated for the first time for outstanding lead actress in a drama series for her role in This Is Us, Mandy rose to the occasion in a stunning custom Brandon Maxwell gown. She wasn’t the only star to wear pink and red on the night (Marisa Tomei also looked great), but Mandy’s dress was to die for, with a plunging pink off the shoulder bodice with ruched sleeves paired with a long red skirt with a slit. With vintage Hollywood-style makeup and her hair in romantic soft curls, Mandy’s old world glamour was a standout, even if she didn’t take home the Emmy.
2. Billy Porter
We already know to expect the fabulous from Billy Porter and he didn’t disappoint last night, wearing a custom Michael Kors suit encrusted with $106,000 worth of diamonds along with an especially extra hat from milliner Stephen Jones featuring a chain crystal band and VERY asymmetrical brim. As the first openly gay black man to win the lead actor in a drama series Emmy for Pose and having just celebrated his 50th birthday, 2019 really is Billy’s time to shine.
3. Kerry Washington
The Scandal star looked smoking hot in an oversize white Alexandre Vauthier tuxedo blouse, collar popped and tucked into high-waisted black sequinned pants. Her hair was in a chic ponytail with a layered fringe, setting off her dramatic black eye makeup. Fresh and fierce.
4. Michelle Wiliams
Not only did Michelle Williams deliver the best speech of the night, she looked impossibly elegant doing so in a gorgeous green beaded Louis Vuitton gown that paired perfectly with her alabaster skin, platinum bob and minimal, natural makeup.
5. Naomi Watts
Rocking a similar hair style and shade to Michelle Williams, Naomi opted for a strapless black Dior gown with a full skirt (something she never wears, apparently) and she looked absolutely magical.
6. Kendall Jenner
It was probably the most fashion-y look of the night, suitably worn by the biggest supermodel at the show. Kendall’s Richard Quinn floral latex combo was probably not the right choice for this particular occasion, and not everyone was a fan, but we kind of dig it. Who else could even come close to making this work?
7. Emilia Clarke
Khaleesi! Daenerys gets our vote for best GOT girl last night in her super deep plunging Valentino gown, hair pulled back and with glam earrings and a chunky ring her only accessories. She admitted on the red carpet that JLo was her biggest inspiration, and a flattered JLo returned the compliment on Instagram.
8. Catherine Zeta-Jones
Catherine Zeta-Jones is about to turn 50 and, like JLo, she looks about twenty years younger. In a hot pink flowing dress by Georges Hobeika with high leg split and sexy shoulder slit, Catherine looked dazzling, hair pulled into a chignon and wearing hot pink open-toed shoes to match her gown. Hubby Michael Douglas missed out on an Emmy but he still, rightly, looked like the cat that got the cream.
9. Mahershala Ali
The always-fashionable Mahershala Ali didn’t disappoint last night in an olive green Ermenegildo Zegna XXX suit with Oliver Peoples x The Row blue-lens frames. We’re loving his Giuseppe Zanotti loafers, too, as well as the cricket lapel pin from Title of Work. On point, all of it.
Queen. The Euphoria star was jaw-dropping last night in a custom Vera Wang gown in a deep emerald green with a fishy-swishy silky tail and a huge slit revealing every inch of those unbelievable pins. Hair tousled like a mermaid, she was flawless.
