The Ordinary‘s global domination seemingly knows no bounds. As the current most popular skincare brand in the world, the brand has developed a cult following for its clinically-backed products that provide science-led results – without the hefty price tag we once associated with skincare efficacy.
After launching several new additions to its skincare offering over the past year, The Ordinary is now entering (and likely revolutionising) a whole new realm in the beauty industry: hair care.
The brand announced that it would be making its first foray into the hair category with an initial release of three new products with minimal ingredients that are suitable for all hair types.
True to The Ordinary’s philosophy, the hair care range will be honest and transparent, with powerful formulations that feature ingredients that are primarily used in skincare – which taps into the growing trend towards treating your hair with as much care as your skin.
The brand will also continue to campaign against skincare myths and falsehoods, which often include the demonisation certain ingredients – one of which is sulphates, which the clean beauty movement often labels as ‘bad’ for the hair.
“A common myth about hair care that I see quite often is that certain ingredients are universally bad for hair,” said parent company Deciem’s chief scientific officer, Prudvi Kaka, in a media release. “This statement does not hold true as from a scientific point of view, one must take into account the concentration of use, the total formulation, the pre-existing behaviour of the hair, and the specific hair concerns that need to be addressed.”
He continued, “For example, the anti-sulphates messaging across the industry has labelled sulphates as harsh but, when formulated properly with appropriate concentration levels, they can create a mild and effective product.”
