It’s back. Hollywood’s love affair with coloured hair. At today’s Met Gala, a handful of celebrities took the camp = colour thing very seriously, arriving with new pastel dye jobs on the red carpet.

First, there was Laverne Cox, who against a very macabre black gown wore ice blue hair. Slicked down the middle and pulled back into a low chignon with two sweeping tendrils, the almost neon hue of blue was made all the more dramatic as it nuzzled a super shoulder detail on her Christian Siriano gown, perfectly frosty and show-stopping.

Then actress Lucy Boynton arrived with a silvery wash through that famous textured bob. More whimsical than “camp”, Boynton kept her regrowth intact and rinsed a dove blue-grey through the lengths which faded out at her ends, topped by a halo of soft silk petals.

But perhaps the ultimate display of colour dedication came via Kylie Jenner, who dyed her hair a bright lavender for the fashionable Gala. Also a lesson in colour coordination, Jenner matched the voluminous lilac plumes of her Versace gown with lavender locks which just skimmed her derrière. With that fishtail hem and long hair, the whole look read a little mermaid-esque; like a purple siren rising from the Met Gala red carpet.

Whether these fresh dye-jobs are a one-night-only affair or the makings of a longer fling, one thing seems certain: coloured hair is back.
