“When the stakes are this high, doesn’t it make more sense to hear our story from us?” That is the question posed by Meghan Markle in the first official teaser to the Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan. The streaming platform released a first look at the long-awaited project overnight which has been dubbed as an “unprecedented and in-depth” look into the “other side” of the couple’s love story.
The teaser opens with a series of unseen intimate black-and-white photographs from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex as well as a brief flashback from their childhoods. “No one sees what’s happening behind closed doors,” Prince Harry says in the teaser. “I had to do everything I could to protect my family.”
The six-episode series directed by Emmy-winning Liz Garbus will see interviews from close family and friends who according to Netflix, “have never spoken publicly before about what they witnessed.” Alongside historians who will speak on the state of the British Commonwealth today. By the series finale we will have been painted a picture on the couple’s early courtship and the events that led them to step back from their roles in the institution.
Famously dubbed “Megxit”, the couple stepped down as senior royals in January 2020 and now live in the US where they’re raising son Archie and daughter Lilibet.
The series was delayed following the death of Queen Elizabeth II with a source telling Page Six in September that the couple wanted to edit comments made about the Royal Family. A release date has not been announced however the previous insider believed Netflix executives were pushing for a December release.
