Frosty the Snowman sweaters, candy cane hats and neckpieces that illuminate like Christmas tree lights are typically not what to do when the holiday season hits. But if we look to Taylor Swift, who dedicated her entire 30th birthday to the silly season, kitsch Christmas dressing is back.

For December babies, co-sharing the month with Christmas has long been a point of contention. With its impossibly cheery colour palette, gift giving sensibility and protracted holidays, how can you beat our favourite holiday of the year (even if it is a milestone? So instead of going head-to-head with Christmas, Taylor Swift has embraced it – fully – “throwing the most aggressive holiday party known to womankind” and encouraging all her celebrity friends to partake in the outrageous festive dress-ups.

“Honestly spending my 30th with the fans who have made my life what it is at jingle ball, then throwing the most aggressive holiday party known to womankind… I just.. seriously feel so lucky for you all and will spend forever trying to find ways to say thank you. *cries in Christmas tree*,” she wrote on Instagram, alongside a series of very festive images of the extravagant birthday bash.

Against a shimmering tinsel backdrop and snowflake-capped trees, Swift was joined by friends Gigi Hadid, Martha Hunt, Camila Cabello, Halsey and 5 Seconds of Summer who all indulged some daggy Christmas dress-ups. There was Cabello in a Santa hat and green feather boa, Halsey in a giant gold bow and Hadid with a very full Santa sack. As for the birthday girl herself, she rotated from Christmas light necklaces, snowman vests and Santa beards, plus a ‘BIRTHDAY GIRL’ tiara (the only real hint it was in fact a birthday and not just a Christmas party).

So get the daggy Christmas sweaters ready and embrace the holiday season with the same aggressive cheer as Taylor Swift. Long live Christmas dress-ups.
