As a bonafide bombshell Gen Zer, it’s no surprise Sydney Sweeney is in on the cut-out trend. But for her latest red carpet appearance, rather than showing her midriff through her black gown’s cheeky cut-out design, the Euphoria actress instead opted to add a fashion-forward chrome breastplate to her look.

Taking cues from her on-screen character, Cassie’s, best friend, Maddy — and moreover, the actress who plays Maddy, Alexa Demie — Sweeney wore a black, custom-made one-sleeve turtleneck gown by LaQuan Smith, which featured a long train with an asymmetrical midriff cut-out. There, she added a reflective chrome breastplate, also by the designer, complete with mirrored nipples.

The 25-year-old, who was attending British GQ‘s Men of the Year award, wore a pair of patent black pumps on her feet and matched her jewellery, nails, and her beauty look to her metallic chest addition, wearing silver jewellery and chrome eyeshadow layered above her black liner.

With such a statement ‘fit, the fact that Sweeney has also had a hair transformation — going from her signature shade of blonde to a light brunette shade, similar to that of Hailey Bieber — almost slipped past unnoticed. With her freshly coloured locks pulled back into a bun, it’s hard to tell exactly how dark the hue is, but what’s clear is that Sweeney pulls it off perfectly.

Though Maddy (and Alexa Demie) are the most likely out of the Euphoria cast to wear an outfit similar to Sweeney’s sexy getup, another of the HBO show’s girl gang, Zendaya, wore a pink metallic Tom Ford breastplate at the Critic’s Choice Awards in 2020.

Chrome breastplates for spring? Groundbreaking (no, really).
