Game of Thrones star and former Queen of the North turned Tik Tok queen Sophie Turner has arrived at the Met Gala looking completely unrecognisable in Louis Vuitton. Accompanied by husband Joe Jonas, wearing a white tuxedo jacket and lace tail over an embroidered vest also by French maison Louis Vuitton, Turner gave an interesting interpretation on the Gilded Glamour theme that’s probably best described as 1920s noir.
Her signature flame-coloured hair darkened to a rich auburn and make-up lifted straight from the silent films of the ’20s, Turner’s Louis Vuitton dress carried embellishments that were a popular decorative feature of the era – inspired by the windows of the growing number of sky rise buildings. A platformed sandal was the sensible shoe of choice for the actress who is currently pregnant with the couple’s second child, who is due later this year.
While not so literal in his interpretation, Jonas was a good example of how menswear could be tweaked to fit without resorting to the strict white tie concept. A white tuxedo jacket is nod enough, while the ditching of the shirt in favour for something that is literally gilded is a clever play. The added lace tail is also a nice touch. While most other male attendees are more than happy to let the women of the night become the focus of the show, Jonas is clearly happy to play along. Which is a nice change of pace from the suits or worse – jeans – that seem to be appearing on the red carpet this year.
Turner and Jonas are now strangers to a solid matching fashion statement – especially when it comes to a slightly fancier dress if not fancy dress itself. Their Gomez and Morticia Addams looks at Halloween was a standout. More recently they gave the Vanity Fair Oscar’s afterparty the looks it deserved – Turner in blazing red Louis Vuitton and Jonas in a sparkling black suit.
