What do Bella Thorne, Miranda Kerr, Rihanna, Elsa Pataky, Emily Ratajkowski and Beyonce all have in common? Apart from fame, fortune and walk-in wardrobes we’d sell our souls for, they’re all fans of the cheeky old ankle chain’s style revival.

Once the unofficial uniform of schoolies week wannabes and surfers’ towel-holding GFs (they’re not ideal if you’re actually the one riding waves, unless industrial strength and/or made of double-knotted rope), the anklet – in multiple incarnations – has become the right kind of style statement again. It’s ideal timing, too, given ankles are the new erogenous zone, thanks to the fashion world’s current love affair hacked-above-ankle denim awks-length pants.

Lanvin and Esteban Cortez were amongst brands to send models down their runways with jingling foot adornments this season, as did Valentino during its last Haute Couture show. Miranda Kerr’s taken to wearing a delicate gold chain at pretty much every red carpet event she hits up recently (how very Aussie beach vix of her), while Rihanna prefers hers less subtle and Bella Thorne’s anklet tastes fall somewhere in between the two.

But here’s what sealed the deal for us in the anklet’s revival in the high jewellery stakes: Beyonce’s bejewelled ankle in THAT town hall steps waterfall scene teaming her Roberto Cavalli yellow dress with a chain clad ankle. That’s the ultimate hippie trend born again seal of approval.
