While New York Fashion Week has served up many delicious beauty looks, one that has remained steadfast on the runway is slicked, wet-look hair. From gel-heavy, rockstar quiffs to simple, sleek middle parts; the slicked ‘do has been spotted around Manhattan taking various forms. At Prabal Gurung, for example, Candice Swanepoel’s iconic mane was swept high into a shiny quiff by hair demigod Odile Gilbert.
Proenza Schouler also found themselves in a sticky situation, with hairstylist Holli Smith raking hair back into greasy mullets that oozed the cool grit of Downtown.
Then, of course, the streamlined slick. A little posher in its articulation, Gabriela Hearst and Brandon Maxwell opted for polished, smooth hair as oppose to steely slicks.
Either way, hair was damp and sheeny in finish. Get the Super Soaker ready, it’s time to get your hair wet.
Prabal Gurung
At Prabal, Gilbert loaded up hair with TRESemmé Sea Salt Spray, raking it up in undone quiffs that sat slightly messy.
Brandon Maxwell
Bob Recine for Aveda called the look “Supersonic Ballerina”, a twisted take on the classic ballerina bun. For that extra-sleek boost, he applied Aveda Light Elements Smoothing Fluid and ran a flat iron through the ends before pulling it back into a ponytail.
Proenza Schouler
Holli Smith wanted “just got out of the shower” hair – i.e. classic cool-girl hair – keeping the ends raw and damp just like the root.
Tibi
One of the standout hair looks of the week, Aveda Guest Artist Frank Rizzieri brought back the crimp; haphazardly crimping hair before securing in a sleek low ponytail with reclaimed fabric. He then glossed up the root with Aveda’s BrilliantTM Spray-on Shine, leaving a lustrous finish.
Helmut Lang
Holli Smith took her spray gun to Helmut Lang, too, saturating model strands and finger-raking them to one side.
Gabriela Heart
Hearst’s classic collection summoned equally chic hair. Split down the middle and flattened into a wet-sheen, it was tucked behind the ear with the ends left dry and lofty.
Chromat
Chromat brought Miami to Manhattan, with Oribe’s Kien Hoang slicking a handful of model manes flat the root, leaving the ends damp with the natural texture of each girl.
