If there’s an unofficial uniform for Australian summer – or Victoria’s Secret models at Coachella, for that matter – it’s this: cut-off denim.
These tiny shorts modelled by supermodel Joan Smalls on the Tommy Hilfiger runway earlier this week are high waisted enough to flatter (tip: ditch hipster cuts if you want the illusion of a longer leg length) and frayed enough to be casual, but with cheeky flair, thanks to the tartan patches and rear pockets.

Team with a strappy singlet and slides, trainers or chunky Timberlands (a la those Angels at this year’s fore-mentioned music festival) for daytime. When the sun sets, add an oversized jacket and heels for a hot summer night look.
The shorts – style name Lexi – are available at Tommy Hilfiger stores in Sydney (Westfield Sydney, Westfield Parramatta), Melbourne (Chadstone and Melbourne Central), Adelaide (Burnside Village) and Queensland (Pacific Fair), with limited stock also available online at MYER.
