Two weeks and we’re still listening. Selena Gomez’s raw, emotional and heart-wrenching ballad “Lose You To Love Me” shot to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart overnight, a first for the songstress. The track racked up a mind-bending 38.8 million streams in the US alone in its first week, according to Billboard.

“My first number 1!! This song is so dear to my heart. I’ve been working so hard to make this album as honest and fun as possible while remaining vulnerable enough to share where I am in life,” Gomez wrote on Instagram in celebration. “I love you deeply and thank you so much for listening. I want to thank each and every person that was [a part] of this moment that I’ll never forget!”

Penned about her past relationship with Justin Bieber, Gomez has been doing the publicity rounds for the song with some choice quotes. “For me, it’s only right for me to speak on what I speak. I didn’t say anything for two years. I sat back, I watched, I cried, it was awful,” she said in a recent interview with radio station 103.5 KTU. “But having a moment to myself and letting other people have their moment – and enjoy life and love is – is also really important. But then this was my turn. I deserved a right to share.”

The star first entered the Hot 100 as a teen in 2009 with her song “Tell Me Something I Don’t Know,” which peaked at No. 58, reports Billboard. Gomez will perform “Lose You To Love Me” at the 2019 American Music Awards later this month, marking the track’s first world television premiere.

“I learned a lot from the last album and I wanted to take what I’ve learned and turn it into something even better,” she told Apple Music Beats 1’s Zane Lowe. “I’m glad I did because this year everything kind of just started pouring out of me. I started saying things in a way that I’ve never been able to articulate them before, so it was actually exactly when it needed to happen.”

Songwriters Julia Michaels and Justin Tranter also took to Instagram to share the excitement over Selena’s first No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 list. “HOLY MOLY WE DID IT,” Michaels wrote on her Instagram. “So f**king proud of you, you beautiful wonderful woman!!!”

The 27-year-old, however, has had to address the nasty trolls online who have decided to pit Gomez and Bieber’s new wife Hailey against one another. “I am grateful for the response the song is getting. I’m so grateful,” Gomez said in an Instagram video. “However, I do not stand for women tearing women down and I will never ever be by that. So please be kind to everyone.”

Gomez released a dance track the day after “Lose You To Love Me”, aptly titled “Look At Her Now”. And with a new album titled Revival coming soon, ain’t that the truth.
