From the creators of This Is Us, Selena Gomez will appear in Hulu’s latest series Only Murders in the Building. Speaking at the TCA Summer 2021 Tour the singer and actress said she was attracted to the comedic whodunnit plot for its maturity. While the Disney Chanel ultimately catapulted her to fame, Gomez admitted she signed her life away.

“I signed my life away to Disney at a very young age and I didn’t know what I was doing,” she said, per Page Six. “What I’d say is the level of sophistication of the material is the first reason why I wanted to do this.”

Gomez will star alongside legendary actors Steve Martin, 75 and Martin Short, 71. The last time Gomez stepped foot on a television set was in 2012 for the last season of Wizard’s of Waverley Place.

“It’s really nice to be back on TV and it’s nice to be cast as my actual age, which never happens,” Gomez said. She later continued, “I don’t know if I’m a good actor. I just do my job.”

Only Murders in the Building follows three Upper West Side residents who are obsessed with true crime. That is, until they become embroiled in a real life murder in their building and are forced to decipher a series of clues to find the killer. The series will drop on August 31.

Truth be told, this could be the beginning of a much wider acting career for the 29-year-old. In a cover interview, the “Wolves” singer hinted that she may step away from music forever to focus on producing and acting.

“I think there are a lot of people who enjoy my music, and for that I’m so thankful, for that I keep going, but I think the next time I do an album it’ll be different,” she said. “I want to give it one last try before I maybe retire music.”
