Interplanetary Beauty At Schiaparelli Haute Couture
Otherworldly
In the thick of various travel restrictions across the globe, Daniel Roseberry took us to another universe overnight by way of Schiaparelli’s Haute Couture runway show in Paris.
Despite a PR rouse from Julia Fox and Kanye, nothing could take away from Roseberry’s outré and outlandish creations — bejewelled corsets, sculptural gowns and embroidered headpieces among them.
As for beauty, Pat McGrath did her absolute best (which for an artist of her pedigree, is a lot) mixing creamy skin with sooty eyes. There was even a glitter tear as seen on model Anyiel Majok (remember when Acne Studios featured something similar at their spring summer ’20 runway show two years ago, as directed by Peter Philips?).
And any editor or commentator who’s been backstage a fashion show would know straight away that the hair was by none other than Guido Palau. Known for his sculptural shapes, fuzzy edges and uncanny ability to defy gravity, the styles were both futuristic and beautifully classic. From Jetson-ish beehives to gilt braids tied into knots, each look was painstakingly precise and conceptually brilliant — a nod to the sci-fi inspired creative direction at large.
As is often the case at Schiaparelli, the beauty looks were only heightened with out-of-this-world accessories: solar ear cuffs, sculpted headwear and ornate gloves with sewn-in ruby fingernails. Like last season, no detail (or diamond) was spared, proving that once again, Roseberry’s Schiaparelli is a couture week highlight.
