Scarlett Johansson has vowed to never discuss her divorce from Romain Dauriac in public out of respect for her young daughter.

In a statement to E! News on Thursday, the mum to two-year-old Rose Dorothy said:

“As a devoted mother and private person and with complete awareness that my daughter will one day be old enough to read the news about herself, I would only like to say that I will never, ever be commenting on the dissolution of my marriage.

“Out of respect for my desires as a parent and out of respect for all working mums, it is with kindness that I ask other parties involved and the media to do the same.”

It comes as her seemingly amicable split from her French husband has quickly turned ugly. A lawyer for Dauriac said that his client intended to fight to be the primary carer for Rose because Johansson’s schedule is too unstable, and that he wants to live with his daughter in Paris – Johansson is based in New York.

“He would like to move to France with his daughter, and Ms. Johansson does a lot of traveling,” attorney Harold Mayerson told E!, adding that he was confident he would secure a win for his client.

“If the court decides it’s in the best interest of the child to be flying on a plane or changing their schedule all the time then I’m going to find a new business. It’s not fair to the kids or to the other parent.”

In January the news broke that Scarlett and her husband of two years were divorcing. A source told People that the couple had already been separated for almost six months.

It’s the second divorce for the Avengers stars after she divorced Ryan Reynolds in 2011, and she recently told Playboy she no longer believes in monogamy.

“I think the idea of marriage is very romantic; it’s a beautiful idea, and the practice of it can be a very beautiful thing. [But] I don’t think it’s natural to be a monogamous person. I might be skewered for that, but I think it’s work. It’s a lot of work.”
