Last month the news broke that Scarlett Johansson and her husband of two years, Romain Dauriac, were divorcing. A source told People that the couple, who share two-year-old daughter Rose Dorothy, has been separated for almost six months.
For Johansson, 32, it was her second marriage after she split from Ryan Reynolds in 2011, and it seems after two failed unions she’s had an epiphany: monogamy is not natural, at least for the Ghost In The Shell star.
“I think the idea of marriage is very romantic; it’s a beautiful idea, and the practice of it can be a very beautiful thing,” the actress says in a new interview with Playboy magazine.
“[But] I don’t think it’s natural to be a monogamous person. I might be skewered for that, but I think it’s work. It’s a lot of work.”

“And the fact that it is such work for so many people—for everyone—the fact of that proves that it is not a natural thing,” Johansson continues. “It’s something I have a lot of respect for and have participated in, but I think it definitely goes against some instinct to look beyond.”
Scarlett and Dauriac were splitting their time between New York and his native Paris, where they last year opened a popcorn store, Yummy Pop.
She’s set to reprise her role as Black Widow in the upcoming film Avengers: Infinity War, which is scheduled for release in May 2018.
