Hello! It’s that time of the year again, Fashion Month! And I’m here to tell you my top five takeaways from the week that was, New York Fashion Week. I’m currently sitting on a flight to LA, for some R&R before hitting the road again for another few months. Here are my thoughts and a curation of film photos from my time in NYC. Fashion week is often a frantic time of the year for the seasonal show-goers. It can be a blur, so when something stands out, its usually worth sharing.
1. Representation and inclusivity in fashion has been a big conversation in previous seasons. This season it was empowering to see it no longer felt like a secondary thought, or something that was required to meet a necessary quota – but rather, an authentic reflection of women of the world.
2. The Kate Spade show offered an exciting collection for the Kate Spade woman. Her second show as creative director, Nicola Glass played with leopard print clashes, 70’s silhouettes and colour blocking. The highlight of this collection were the silk dresses and pant suits.
3. Tory Burch was another show I was looking forward to attending this season. I thought they did such a great job in balancing their collection with editorial and commercial pieces. The majority of the looks were monochrome with an occasional burst of colour. Here I am at the show with my friend and model Victoria Lee.
4. Michael Kors nailed it this season with his homage to one of the most fashionable moments of the 20th century, the 70’s at STUDIO 54. Not only was the collection show-stopping, but at the end of the runway, black curtains were dropped to reveal a stage of Gold Tinsel and Barry Manilow singing Copacabana alongside models including Bella Hadid.
5. The coach show was another highlight of Fall/Winter ’19. Coach, being an iconic American brand, has consistently held a strong brand identity and continued to do so this season. The highlights of this collection were the oversized jackets and lace-trim frocks. Overall the presented shows during the week were colourful, inspiring and a celebration of diversity which I felt was a reflection of the current times and culture of an optimistic New York City.
