Welcome to Take Note – a weekly rolodex of all the best in skin, wellness, and makeup from industry insiders. Each week, we’ll profile one woman who’s privvy to beauty, covering everything from recommendations to routines. Today’s subject is Sarah Hamilton, co-founder of Sand & Sky, the Australian skincare brand that quite literally blew up the internet when it launched with its Pink Clay Mask a few years back. Now a cult beauty brand (and stocked at Mecca), Sarah knows a thing or two when it comes to skincare, but still favours a simple, easy-to-execute beauty aesthetic. Here, we talk to Sarah about her routine, affinity towards luxurious fragrance and her weekly masking habit.

SKIN

GRAZIA: What does your morning skincare routine look like?

Sarah: Mornings are always super busy in my house, so I like to keep it simple. I love a leave-on mask and I try to exercise every morning. Night time is when I indulge a bit more.

GRAZIA: And evening?

Sarah: Bioderma Sensibio Micellar Water, Sand & Sky Australian Emu Apple Dreamy Glow Drops or Drunk Elephant T.L.C. Framboos Glycolic Night Serum.

GRAZIA: If you were heading to a deserted island, what three products would make the cut?

Sarah: Serum (Australian Emu Apple Dreamy Glow Drops), mascara and SPF. I love hydrating products, my eyelashes are super fair and I can’t stand getting burnt!

GRAZIA: Favourite SPF formula?

Sarah: Ultra Violette is getting a good run right now.

GRAZIA: Best treatment out there?

Sarah: I multi-mask at home weekly! Currently I’m using the Sand & Sky Australian Pink Clay Porefining Face Mask followed by our new Australian Emu Apple Super Bounce Mask.

GRAZIA: Skincare cheap thrill?

Sarah: Bioderma Sensibio Micellar Water.

GRAZIA: And splurge?

Sarah: Sarah Chapman Overnight Facial Elixir.

GRAZIA: What’s your go-to method for treating a pimple, fast?

Sarah: Sand & Sky Australian Pink Clay Porefining Face Mask – I just put a bit of the mask on the pimple and wait 10 mins.

MAKEUP

GRAZIA: Who is your makeup muse?

Sarah: Anyone with great skin, I don’t like the overdone look.

GRAZIA: What’s your go-to makeup look?

Sarah: Great skincare, tinted moisturiser, pink blush, eyeliner and mascara. Takes me five minutes in the morning!

GRAZIA: Holy grail foundation?

Sarah: Chantecaille Just Skin.

GRAZIA: And most used lip colour?

Sarah: YSL Rouge Pur Couture.

GRAZIA: Best ever mascara?

Sarah: Hourglass Caution Extreme Lash Mascara.

GRAZIA: How do you shape and fill your brows?

Sarah: I leave it up to the professionals and have them waxed and tinted every five weeks.

GRAZIA: Signature fragrance?

Sarah: Such a sucker for Tom Ford Black Orchid!

GRAZIA: What does your vacation makeup kit look like?

Sarah: Tinted moisturiser, blush and mascara.

GRAZIA: Quirkiest makeup trick you can share?

Sarah: Adding the Sand & Sky Australian Emu Apple Dreamy Glow Drops to my lips before lipstick – Instant hydration!

HAIR

GRAZIA: Favourite shampoo and conditioner duo?

Sarah: Olaplex is the only thing keeping my hair alive right now.

GRAZIA: Can’t live without styling product?

Sarah: Oribe Maximista Thickening Spray.

GRAZIA: Hair tool you can’t live without?

Sarah: Dyson Hair Dryer.

GRAZIA: Best tip for styling your particular hair texture?

Sarah: Go for a blow wave at The Blow in Collins Street… nothing I do works!

GRAZIA: Who cuts and colours your hair?

Sarah: The team at Aery Salon on Flinders Lane.

GRAZIA: Dream hair?

Sarah: Meg Ryan!

WELLNESS

GRAZIA: In a sentence, what’s your approach to wellness?

Sarah: Great skin only comes by looking after yourself inside and out, so I’m always into continuous improvement in my overall health and wellness.

GRAZIA: Do you have a food philosophy?

Sarah: I would drink dirt if you told me it was healthy! I try to eat fresh and healthy foods quite religiously but have a weakness for chocolate, cheese and wine.

GRAZIA: What are some common meals in your food repertoire?

Sarah: Banana and latte pre exercise, then fruit and toast with avocado and vegemite for breakfast. Salad and protein for lunch and whatever I am given for dinner as I don’t cook! Finally, at least one bottle of kombucha!

GRAZIA: What ways do you love to move your body?

Sarah: I’m obsessed with tennis and have coaching once per week! I also workout with my long term personal trainer, Gordon Chommanivong.

GRAZIA: Coffee or tea?

Sarah: Skinny latte.

GRAZIA: What would your final meal be?

Sarah: Beef tartare.

GRAZIA: Are there any supplements you take regularly?

Sarah: I try to have WelleCo Super Greens every day and anything by The Beauty Chef. I get hay fever and I think garlic is the answer to all ills, so I take horseradish and garlic tablets daily.

GRAZIA: What tricks do you put in place to ensure you get a good night’s sleep?

Sarah: I take magnesium before bed, try to not look at my phone and always read a book! And I pray the kids and the dogs don’t wake up during the night. Ha ha!
