Welcome to Take Note – a weekly rolodex of all the best in skin, wellness, and makeup from industry insiders. Each week, we’ll profile one woman who’s privvy to beauty, covering everything from recommendations to routines. Today we’re chatting with Kellie Collis, the brains behind cult Australian skincare brand Salt By Hendrix. Grounded in skincare rituals (like Gua Sha) and luxurious oils, the brand has come leaps and bounds since it launched a few years back, covering everything from facial care to delicious bath products. Here, Collis talks us though her own routine, including the virtues of DIY facial massage, natural eyebrow intel and her indie fragrance signature.
GRAZIA: What does your morning skincare routine look like?
Kellie: I start by using our Gel Cleanser and then wash it off with warm water and pat dry, spritzing some of our Glisten Face Mist onto my skin. I then apply our Botanic Facial Serum with a super cold Amethyst Face Roller to remove any puffiness or water retention around the eyes, neck and face. I follow by massaging in our new Aurora face crème (coming soon) and finish with an SPF.
GRAZIA: And evening?
Kellie: I always double cleanse – it’s my favourite thing to do. I use our Oil Cleanser as it’s excellent at removing makeup and SPF and it emulsifies so well with warm water. Then I use our Gel Cleanser and will occasionally follow that with new products we’re testing out. I’ll typically apply Stardust Tonic, our daily moisture crème and finish with Mermaid Oil, using our Rose Quartz Gua Sha to sculpt and massage in the products. I find that after a busy day I can retain fluid in my face, and the Gua Sha is so wonderful at removing that fluid whilst helping with absorption of the oil. It’s also a really great way to release any tension in the muscles around my face.
GRAZIA: If you were heading to a deserted island, what three products would make the cut?
GRAZIA: Favourite SPF formula?
Kellie: I find a lot of SPF’s break out my skin, but the Avene formula works.
GRAZIA: Skin rituals you indulge in?
GRAZIA: Skincare cheap thrill?
Kellie: Gua Sha + face oil – it’s the dream combo.
GRAZIA: And splurge?
Kellie: A facial at Joanna Vargas in NYC.
GRAZIA: What’s your go-to method for treating a pimple, fast?
Kellie: Change your pillowcase pronto! Then cleanse, cleanse, cleanse. Dry it out with a clay treatment product and then keep it really simple in regard to products you use around the area.
GRAZIA: Who is your makeup muse?
Kellie: Obsessed with Lucy Boynton.
GRAZIA: What’s your go-to makeup look?
Kellie: Dewy skin always, peachy cheeks, fun brows, lashes and liner.
GRAZIA: Holy grail foundation?
Kellie: Ilia True Skin Serum Foundation.
GRAZIA: And most used lip colour?
Kellie: Rituel De Fille Inner Glow Pigment in Delerium.
GRAZIA: Best ever mascara?
GRAZIA: How do you shape and fill your brows?
Kellie: I only ever tweeze the middle, very rarely do I tweeze anywhere else. I love to fill them with Glossier Brow Flick and Boy Brow. I can create so many shapes with these products.
GRAZIA: One beauty trend you’ll never try?
GRAZIA: Signature fragrance?
Kellie: I love Dedcool Taunt.
GRAZIA: What does your vacation makeup kit look like?
Kellie: Foundation, Bronzer, a lip-cheek hybrid product, mascara and brow products.
GRAZIA: Got a quirky makeup tip you can divulge?
Kellie: It’s not my tip but Katie Jane Hughes said to do your brows if using a brow pen before you even start your skincare and it’s such A-GAME advice.
GRAZIA: Favourite shampoo and conditioner duo?
Kellie: R+Co Gemstone range.
GRAZIA: Can’t live without styling product?
Kellie: Oribe Texturizing Spray.
GRAZIA: Hair tool you can’t live without?
Kellie: Hairdryer, brush and curling wand.
GRAZIA: Who cuts and colours your hair?
Kellie: My friend, Suzanna Kennedy Salon.
GRAZIA: If you could have anyone’s hair, who would you choose?
Kellie: Lucy Boynton – seriously the biggest fan.
GRAZIA: In a sentence, what’s your approach to wellness?
Kellie: Making sure you prioritise time for yourself, even if it’s simply your evening skincare routine.
GRAZIA: Do you have a food philosophy?
Kellie: All in moderation, though I do have a dairy-free diet as I find it aggravates my skin and stomach.
GRAZIA: What are some common meals in your food repertoire?
Kellie: Coffee for breakfast or almond milk chia pudding. Generally I am always running late so I will get a wrap or similar for lunch and then salad with some sort of seafood for dinner. I do have a weakness for sweets though!
GRAZIA: In what ways do you love to move your body?
Kellie: I need to be better at this – I prefer yoga to running.
GRAZIA: Are there any supplements you take regularly?
Kellie: I do like The Beauty Chef as it doesn’t upset my stomach, I don’t take any vitamins though.
GRAZIA: What would your final meal be?
