Earlier this week, West Side Story’s lead actress Rachel Zegler confused the world when she revealed that despite the film she stars in being nominated for a total of seven Oscars at the upcoming Academy Awards, she, the lead actress in said film, didn’t receive an invite to the event.

Not only were Zegler’s fans shocked when she mentioned she’d been trying but failing to get on the event’s guest list, but so too was the wider media. Immediately, stories were published – including one here – with basically everyone wondering the same thing: WTF is going on when one of the brightest young actors in Hollywood, who just won a Golden Globe for her performance, is being shunned from an event that everyone’s already been questioning for years? She also seemed to imply that the entire saga might have been an issue with her currently filming Snow White in London and not initially being able to take time off to fly back to America for the ceremony. “It’s not lost on me that being able to shoot a film the scale of Snow White during COVID is not easy,” she wrote, “and any adjustment to our schedule is no small sacrifice. She also thanked producers and the Academy for the presenting gig, adding, “now, what to wear …”
