Prince Harry and Prince William will speak candidly about Princess Diana in upcoming HBO documentary Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy.
In a new trailer, Harry says it’s the first time he and William have talked about Diana as a mother rather than a royal family member and public figure.
Wills and Harry, who lost their mum when they were 15 and 12 years old respectively, are shown flipping through photo albums as they praise what an “informal” and “naughty” mum Diana was.
“You and I are both in this photograph,” William says to Harry, holding a picture of a pregnant Diana holding little Wills. “You’re in the tummy.”
The princes share their memories of her as a fun and laidback person, compared to their life in the royal family.
“She was very informal and really enjoyed the laughter and the fun,” Will says. “She understood that there was a real life outside of palace walls.”
“She was one of the naughtiest parents,” Harry adds.
“She was our mum. She still is our mum. And of course, as a son I would say this, she was the best mum in the world.”
“She smothered us with love, that’s for sure,” Wills says.
Next month will mark the 20th anniversary of Diana’s death. She was killed at just 36 years old, in 1997 in Paris when the car she travelling in crashed in a tunnel.
Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy will air on HBO this month.
