Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s night out in London literally broke the internet when the couple were caught in the rain and photographers snapped them smiling like loved-up teenagers at each other. But not even the Duke and Duchess of Sussex with their glow of freedom could top what happened inside the event that evening: a surprise proposal that left Meghan in tears.
The couple touched down on UK soil to attend royal engagements which they’d committed to prior to stepping back as senior roles in January, including a night out at the annual Endeavour Fund Awards in London on Thursday. For the occasion, Meghan wore a blue dress by her friend Victoria Beckham, Manolo Blahnik pumps and her hair pulled back into a ponytail. A dapper Prince Harry matched his wife in a navy suit and light blue tie.
During the awards ceremony, military veteran Danny Holland took everyone – including the royals in the front row – by surprise when he proposed to his girlfriend, Lauren Price, after winning the Recognising Achievement award.
In an emotional speech, Holland paid tribute to his partner, before bringing out a ring. Price was then led onto the stage where Holland got down on one knee, prompting the Duchess of Sussex to exclaim “Oh my God” to Prince Harry and get teary-eyed.
After the ceremony finished, Holland told The Daily Mail that the newly engaged couple was invited to speak to Harry and Meghan. “They just congratulated us. They asked us how we felt and if I was expecting it. They said they were really happy for us,” she said.
