When a glowing Meghan Markle took to the stage at the British Fashion Awards in 2018 to present her wedding dress designer, Givenchy’s Clare Waight Keller, with an award, her appearance was completely unexpected and quickly made headlines worldwide.

Just last week, Prince William and Kate Middleton attended the BAFTAs, alongside all of the biggest names in Hollywood, including Margot Robbie who gave a speech joking about Megxit (albeit because Brad Pitt asked her to) and Joaquin Phoenix, who curtseyed to the duke.

Now, it appears the Oscars want in on the royal action. The Academy reportedly approached Meghan and Harry to present the biggest award of the night – Best Picture – at this year’s ceremony, taking place on Sunday night in Los Angeles.

But, unfortunately, despite being stateside for a private event in Miami on Thursday night, the Sussexes declined the invitation. Per Hello!, a source said “they were honored by the request, but declined.”

Surprisingly, earlier this week, both Harry and Meghan attended JPMorgan’s AIS (Alternative Investment Summit) in Miami, where Harry gave a speech. The event is thought to be their first paid appearance since relinquishing their senior royal roles.

During Harry’s  talk, the duke reportedly spoke about losing his mum, Princess Diana, and how he’s been going to therapy for the past three years to work through the trauma. “He talked about how the events of his childhood affected him and that he has been talking to a mental health professional,” a source told Page Six.

Allegedly, Harry also spoke about his and Meghan’s decision to move to Canada. “Harry also touched on Megxit, saying while it has been very difficult on him and Meghan, he does not regret their decision to step down as senior royals because he wants to protect his family. He does not want Meghan and their son Archie to go through what he did as a child,” the source continued.
