Following weeks of speculation about whether Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will be attending King Charles III’s Coronation in London next month – and the couple reportedly missing the deadline to RSVP – it has been confirmed that the Duke of Sussex will be in attendance for the historical event, but without his wife.

The couple has confirmed Prince Harry will travel to the UK for the May 6th event, but the Duchess of Sussex is planning to remain at their home in California with their two children to celebrate the fourth birthday of Prince Archie.

“The Duke of Sussex will attend the coronation service at Westminster Abbey on 6 May. The Duchess of Sussex will remain in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet,” a spokesperson for the couple confirmed. Buckingham Palace also shared the news in a statement.

The news comes after reports that the couple hadn’t responded to the RSVP due to their asks reportedly not yet being met by the firm. Marie Claire reported Harry and Meghan had asked for a balcony appearance alongside the other senior members of the family — which was declined: it was later confirmed the balcony is going to be reserved for working members of the royal family only.

They also reportedly asked for the inclusion of their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, in order to guarantee their support in-person at the coronation.

Furthermore, The Mirror added the couple had requested that there be some sort of celebration for Archie’s birthday on May 6 should the family travel to the UK.

This latest development, of course, comes after years of tension between Prince Harry, Markle and the royal family, including between his older brother, Prince William, and wife, Kate Middleton. The feud was cemented further with the release of the Sussexes Netflix series and Prince Harry’s memoir, Spare.
