Most of us spent lockdown sartorially regressing. With the absence of places to go, and the concept of ‘trends’ feeling increasingly obsolete, emerging from quarantine with a well-crafted new look was low on the priority list. Things are different, of course, when you’re one of the world’s most fawned-over models—as is the case for quintessential British rose Suki Waterhouse.

Waterhouse was photographed in Notting Hill, London, yesterday afternoon looking chicer than ever, wearing a knee-skimming coat with a statement lace lapel and blush pink purse by Miu Miu. (This writer, for a contrasting perspective, was in Notting Hill on a coffee run at the exact same time, but wearing sweatpants).

28-year-old Waterhouse mastered her personal style early, invoking a ‘Swinging Sixties turned modern’ that has tantalised the fashion industry, both on and off the red carpet (she’s also been acting since 2014). Waterhouse has, naturally, made few public appearance in 2020—she hit the press circuit for the feminist historical drama Misbehaviour in January, alongside Keira Knightley and Gugu Mbatha Raw, but during lockdown she was largely only photographed during daily strolls with her boyfriend, Robert Pattinson, near their London home.

One exception was a short trip to Milan in September, where she travelled to attend the Boss spring summer ’21 runway show. In keeping with the relatively low-key nature of this socially distanced fashion month, Waterhouse opted for a super-chic tonal ensemble—a buttery leather trench, low-slung trousers and a ribbed vest, worn with a black face mask.

We’re going to take this as a subtle hint that it’s time to get our fashion act back together.
