When Phoebe Waller-Bridge announced Fleabag’s second season would be its last, millennial women’s hearts collectively broke all over the world. In recent history, there’s been no show that’s gripped the masses quite like it, and none have hit the mark since. In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever laughed harder while watching TV as I did the first time I watched that Barack Obama scene.
Thankfully now, three years and one pandemic after the Fleabag finale, a new PWB show is coming our way. According to Deadline, Amazon Prime Video has greenlit a new series with plans to begin filming later this year.
Unfortunately, that’s about all we know so far: further details have been kept under wraps, but it’s highly likely the show will have the same sarcastic and darkly funny Waller-Bridge tone that was evident in Fleabag and Killing Eve, as well as in her first, lesser-known but equally brilliant project, Crashing.
Over the past three years, Waller-Bridge has mostly worked behind the scenes in TV and film, including co-writing the screenplay for the latest James Bond film No Time to Die. She also briefly worked on the long-developed Mr. & Mrs. Smith reboot with Donald Glover, which she exited in September 2021, citing creative differences.
She also made a few on-screen appearances. One on the HBO thriller Run, which she also executive-produced, another on the fantasy series His Dark Materials, which also included Hot Priest himself, Mr. Andrew Scott, and of course, she very iconically appeared in a Harry Styles music video. Next year, we’ll also see Waller-Bridge in her biggest movie so far in her role in the fifth Indiana Jones film alongside Harrison Ford.
This new series marks Waller-Bridge’s first created under her overall deal with Amazon, which was signed in September 2019 for a whopping estimated $20 million per year. Get your bag!
