Make no mistake, Ryan Murphy’s Versace: American Crime Story will be as big as OJ’s. The series will chronicle the 1997 assassination of famed designer Gianni Versace who was shot dead by a stalker in Miami. Recently, it was revealed Penelope Cruz would play Gianni’s grieving sister and successor to the atelier, Donatella. Now, pictures of Cruz donning a platinum blonde wig on location at the Versace mansion in Miami have been released.
The Oscar winner looks startlingly similar to the real Donatella – right down to the pursed lips and shape of her mouth. Early punters had Lady Gaga as a possible casting but Cruz was quickly announced soon-after. She joins Ricky Martin (seen below) who plays Gianni’s partner Antonio D’Amico and Darren Criss who plays serial killer Andrew Cunanan (Murphy and Criss met on the set of Glee.)
